‘Alongside but not in front’

چکیده
This article starts by summarising the history of socially-engaged research on disadvantaged groups, pointing out that many social methods currently in use field originated outside academy, carried protagonists with a mission to draw attention injustices and bring about change. It then discusses often-problematic relationship between researchers people whose working lives they research, especially situations where are actively engaged struggles their subjects, for example when using such as workers’ inquiries or forms action research. Two experienced who have also themselves been active organisations reflect these issues form dialogue, dialogue which some workers receiving end respond. The concludes raising further questions future debate.
